2027 health insurance premiums: +5% in Switzerland, +4.4% in Geneva

Every autumn, premium increases push people to switch fund. But the lowest premium isn't always the right choice. Here's what you should really look at.

Switching health fund: the real criteria beyond price

It's now official: the 2027 health insurance premiums have been announced. Nationally, the average increase is 5.0%, and the average monthly premium crosses the 400-franc mark for the first time, at 412 francs. In Geneva, the increase is 4.4%. Here's what it means for you, and how to limit the bill.

Key 2027 figures

According to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), this new increase is mainly explained by the growing number of treatments, the ageing population and medical progress, with no sign of a slowdown in the short term.

In Geneva: among the most expensive cantons

At +4.4%, Geneva remains one of the cantons with the highest premiums in Switzerland. To cushion the blow, the canton plans to raise its subsidy budget, from around 760 million in 2026 to nearly 830 million for 2027. All the more reason to check whether you're entitled.

Why act now

One key point: basic insurance (LAMal) benefits are identical across all insurers. Only the price, model and service change. For identical benefits, the gap between two funds can exceed several hundred francs a year. You'll receive your new premiums by post by the end of October: now is the time to compare.
