Good to know

The subsidy certificate, explained

In Geneva, anyone entitled to a health insurance subsidy receives a certificate at home. Keep this document: it may be requested for administrative procedures or by your insurer.

What is it?

Proof of your entitlement

An official cantonal document confirming the subsidy granted to you and its amount, used as supporting evidence.

Who receives it?

Geneva beneficiaries

People resident in the canton of Geneva whose income qualifies them for the subsidy, including many cross-border workers insured under LAMal.

What is it for?

Proving your subsidy

The subsidy isn't paid into your account: it's deducted directly from your premiums by your fund. The certificate is the proof.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about the subsidy certificate

Is the certificate chargeable?

No. You can download and print it for free from your e-démarches area, or request it by post from the health insurance office.

I don't have an e-démarches account, what should I do?

You can register directly online on ge.ch, then access “Ma situation subside”. If you'd rather avoid the online route, request a duplicate from the SAM by post. We can also help you create your account.

I never received my certificate: is that normal?

Everyone entitled to a subsidy receives a certificate at home. If you think you're entitled but received nothing, check your situation via e-démarches or your premium statement; if in doubt, review it with us or contact the SAM.

I'm a cross-border worker: does this concern me?

If you work in Geneva and are insured under LAMal (right of option), you may qualify for the Geneva subsidy depending on your income, and therefore receive a certificate. We regularly assist cross-border workers with these matters.

Can SPI handle the process for me?

The certificate is issued by the canton, but we support you free of charge: checking your subsidy entitlement, creating your e-démarches account, understanding your premium statement and optimising your health insurance. Our advice is independent and with no obligation.
