Health insurance subsidy amount in Geneva in 2026

How much do you actually get? Here is the canton of Geneva's official 2026 scale, group by group: monthly amounts per adult, young adult and child, and the income ceilings (RDU) that determine your entitlement.

🔒 Indicative 2026 figures, source ge.ch · The final decision rests with the SAM.

The Geneva health insurance subsidy is not a flat amount: it depends on your unified determining income (RDU), your family situation and your age. The canton places every insured person in one of 9 income groups: the lower your group (lower RDU), the higher the subsidy. Geneva is a single premium region, so amounts are identical across every municipality in the canton.

Each dependent child raises the ceilings by CHF 6,000 and opens an additional child subsidy. A family can therefore remain eligible with a noticeably higher income than a single person. See the eligibility and entitlement details.

Worked examples

How is your RDU calculated?

The RDU (unified determining income) is based on your latest tax assessment, plus a fraction of your wealth (about 1/15). It is therefore not exactly your gross salary. If your income has dropped (job loss, separation, retirement), a mid-year review is possible. People taxed at source and cross-border workers under the right of option may also be concerned.

The increase in amounts in 2026

Subsidies are indexed each year to the change in the average premium. For 2026 in Geneva, amounts rose by about +8.7% for adults, +5.3% for young adults and +10.9% for children compared with 2025. The adult ceiling thus reaches CHF 348/month.

Can the subsidy cover my whole premium?

The subsidy reduces your LAMal premium, within the limit of the cantonal reference premium. Recipients of social assistance (RI) or supplementary benefits (PC) are automatically entitled to the maximum subsidy, with immediate effect. For everyone else, the amount depends on the RDU group shown above.
