As a cross-border worker, you have to choose your health insurance system. This choice, known as the right of option, is subject to a strict deadline and often commits you for a long time.
When you start working in Switzerland while living in France, you fall by default under Swiss health insurance (LAMal). The right of option lets you ask to be covered by the French system (CMU/social security) instead.
The request must be made within three months of starting work in Switzerland. After this deadline, your choice is in principle fixed and you remain affiliated to LAMal.
The right of option can generally be exercised only once. It's therefore essential to compare the two systems before deciding, as reversing the choice is difficult.
The right choice depends on your family situation, your health, your income and your care habits (in France or Switzerland). We compare the costs and cover of both options for your household and guide you through the process.
Not necessarily. The CMU is calculated on income, LAMal on fixed premiums per person. Depending on the household's composition and income, either system can be more advantageous.
We analyse your situation and guide you to the best decision.
